Wollondilly MP Judy Hannan says it is “incredibly sad” to see a historic Menangle building damaged by fire, as investigations continue into the blaze.
The independent Wollondilly MP spoke to The Southern Wire following the fire, which damaged the building housing the Australia Post Menangle outlet and a popular local coffee shop.
“It’s incredibly sad to see such a historic building damaged in today’s fire,” Mrs Hannan said.
“I truly hope the building is found to be structurally sound and can eventually be restored to its former glory.”
Mrs Hannan said the fire would impact both local business owners and residents who regularly used the site.
“This will no doubt have an impact on the owners and the locals, with many relying on it as their go-to place for coffee and for the Australia Post Menangle store,” she said.
However, Mrs Hannan said the most important outcome was that nobody had been injured.
“The most important thing, and the best possible outcome, is that nobody was hurt,” she said.
She also thanked emergency services crews who responded to the incident.
“A huge thank you to all the RFS and Fire & Rescue crews who attended and worked tirelessly to bring the structure fire under control,” Mrs Hannan said.
