The senior competition launched on Saturday across three grades, and First Grade did not disappoint.

Bowral too strong for Moss Vale

Match of the round went to Bowral v Moss Vale. Moss Vale surprised a few by bowling first. Bowral were cruising at 1-68, then collapsed to 9-160.

Hayden Willebrand (72) held firm. With help from Savion Suares (0)*, the last pair dragged Bowral to 224 — a total that suddenly looked very handy.

Moss Vale’s chase never really settled. Wickets fell steadily, and at 6-114, the writing was on the wall.

A late fightback from Bailey Craig (62) and Patrick Bruckshaw (26) gave them hope, but Bowral held on — winning by 21 runs to open their season in style.

Robertson cruise past Wingello

At Lackey Park, Wingello’s 99 wasn’t enough. Robertson took their time, crawling to the target in the 37th over, but it was more than enough for the points.

Dale Young (4-24) and Nathan Ring (3-27) ripped through Wingello, before Jack Whitfield (48)* finished the job.

Hill Top make a statement

Over at Welby Oval, Hill Top made it clear they are here to play. They smashed 318, led by Stephen McNaught (77) and Mitchell Granger (56).
They then rolled Mittagong for 191. McNaught backed up with 2-13 and Jack Saunders (3-38) cut through the top order.

Mittagong’s return to First Grade was spirited — but Hill Top were simply better.

Ladder after Round 1

Round 2 rolls on next weekend. Bowral take on Wingello at Welby, Moss Vale will face the run machines from Hill Top at Lackey Park whilst Mittagong and Robertson meet at Bradman.
