A bushwalker has been rescued following a multi-agency search in the Southern Highlands.

Emergency services were called about 1pm on Tuesday after reports a 39-year-old man had become lost while bushwalking on the Starlight Trail at Hill Top, within Nattai National Park.

The trail is an 11-kilometre return walk suited to experienced hikers, and forms part of a broader network stretching between Mittagong and Katoomba.

A command post was established, with officers from Hume Police District coordinating the response.

Specialist resources were deployed, including PolAir, NSW SES, Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Ambulance and Police Rescue.

Just before 7:45pm, PolAir located the man, who was winched to safety.

He was assessed at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics but did not require treatment.

Starlights Trail is known for its steep terrain and remote conditions, running through the Nattai Wilderness area with limited access and minimal signage in parts.

Authorities have reminded bushwalkers to plan ahead, carry sufficient supplies and inform someone of their intended route before heading into remote areas
