A 21-year-old woman has had her licence suspended for six months after allegedly being clocked at 143km/h on the Hume Highway at Berrima during the Labour Day long weekend police operation.

Mittagong Highway Patrol officers were conducting mobile speed enforcement on the Hume Highway about 7.45am on Saturday when they detected the sedan allegedly travelling at 143km/h.

Police stopped the vehicle and the woman underwent mandatory drug testing, allegedly returning a positive result.

Officers also allegedly found cannabis during a search of the vehicle.

The woman was cautioned and issued a traffic infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h. Her licence was suspended for six months.

The incident was one of several highlighted by NSW Police following the conclusion of Operation Labour Day 2026.

Further north in Macarthur, a 32-year-old man will face Picton Local Court after allegedly returning a blood-alcohol reading five times the legal limit following a traffic stop on the Camden Bypass at Narellan.

Macarthur Highway Patrol officers were conducting mobile speed enforcement just after midnight on Sunday when they allegedly detected an Isuzu utility travelling above the 80km/h speed limit.

The vehicle was stopped and the driver underwent mandatory testing before being arrested and taken to Narellan Police Station.

Police allege he returned a breath analysis reading of 0.250.

He was issued a court attendance notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h, high-range drink driving and driving with high-range prescribed concentration of alcohol and an illicit drug.

His licence was suspended and he is due to appear before Picton Local Court on Thursday, October 29.

Operation Labour Day ran from 12.01am on Friday until 11.59pm on Monday, with double demerit points in force across NSW.

Police issued 9136 traffic infringement notices statewide, including 3234 for speeding, 345 for mobile phone offences and 130 for seatbelt or helmet offences.

More than 211,000 breath tests were conducted, resulting in 270 drink-driving offences.

Police also reported 279 major crashes during the four-day operation.

Four people died on NSW roads during the long weekend.

Police Minister Yasmin Catley said the deaths showed the consequences of dangerous decisions behind the wheel.

“We’ve seen too many people killed and too many injured on the roads this weekend,” she said.

“It is tragic and, in most cases, totally avoidable.”

Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander Assistant Commissioner David Driver said motorists should continue to expect enforcement beyond the holiday period.

“This operation may be over, but our enforcement efforts continue every day of the year,” he said.

Since January 1, police say 265 people have lost their lives on NSW roads.
