“You will be caught”: Police warn drivers ahead of Anzac Day blitz
Drivers are being warned to expect a major police presence on local roads as part of a crackdown over the Anzac Day long weekend.

Drivers are being warned to expect a major police presence on local roads as part of a crackdown over the Anzac Day long weekend.
The NSW Police Force will run Operation Anzac Day 2026 from 12.01am Friday to 11.59pm Monday, with officers deployed across highways, regional areas and metropolitan roads.
Double demerits will apply for speeding, mobile phone use, seatbelt and helmet offences during the same period.
Police say 108 people have died on NSW roads so far this year — five more than at the same point last year.
Minister for Police Yasmin Catley said drivers should expect to be caught if they take risks.
“There is no excuse for speeding, using your mobile phone, or incorrectly wearing a seatbelt,” she said.
“If you make the wrong decision behind the wheel, you will be caught, and you will face the consequences.”
Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander Trent King said the focus was on preventing deaths.
“We are seeing far too many lives lost on our roads,” he said.
“Our message this long weekend is simple: slow down and pay attention.”
Motorists are urged to plan ahead and report dangerous driving to Crime Stoppers.
