Wollondilly Shire Council has secured $13.52 million in Federal Government funding for five major road projects, bringing the total investment to more than $18.5 million.

The funding, awarded through the Australian Government’s Safer Local Roads Infrastructure Program, will be supplemented by $5.01 million from Council.

Wollondilly secured approximately 10 per cent of the $134.72 million allocated nationally and 20 per cent of the funding awarded across NSW.

The five projects include:

  • Construction of a roundabout at Barkers Lodge Road, Picton.

  • Flood mitigation works on Burragorang Road, Mount Hunter.

  • Improvements to Montpelier Drive at The Oaks.

  • Works on Park and Myrtle Avenues at Tahmoor.

  • Upgrades to Razorback Bridge over Racecourse Creek.

Mayor Matt Gould welcomed the announcement, saying all five of Council's funding applications had been successful.

"Council is making a massive investment in our road network. It is fantastic to see that all five of Council's applications for this round of the program have been successful," Cr Gould said.

"With Wollondilly's population increasing as we do our part to provide much-needed housing, this funding will provide an important boost in the delivery of our road projects to improve safety for our current and future residents."

Cr Gould said community feedback had played an important role in securing the funding, with residents participating in consultation sessions and questionnaires about road safety concerns.

He thanked residents for their contributions and acknowledged Federal Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories Kristy McBain for the investment.

The announcement comes as Wollondilly continues to experience significant population growth, placing increasing pressure on its existing road network.
