Winter school holiday fun for all

Although the winter chill may have set in, there is still plenty to do for the kids and all the family across the regions this Winter school holidays.

Although the winter chill may have set in, there is still plenty to do for the kids and all the family across the regions this Winter school holidays.

The Southern Highlands, Tablelands, Wollondilly, Yass, Camden and Campbelltown councils and local organisations have a plethora of events planned to keep both kids and adults entertained.

The Southern Wire has compiled a list of what’s happening. But get in quick, because some events have been either booked quickly or even sold out!

CAMDEN

Chess Club, Oran Park Library

Test your brainpower and competitive skills in a free chess club at Oran Park Library this school holidays and beyond.

The Chess Club is held weekly every Thursday from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon.

Dates for this holidays will be Thursday 9 and 16 July.

No booking is required. Oran Park Library is located at 70 Central Ave, Oran Park.

NAIDOC Week Craft, Narellan Library

Next Monday July 6, the Narellan Library will be hosting NAIDOC Week Craft from 10:30 – 11:30am.

Suitable for ages 5 – 12, the kids can create and decorate various crafts including boomerangs, colouring - in sheets, wooden animals and wooden keyrings.

The event is free, however bookings are still required for numbers. Get in quick, as there are only 4 tickets still available.

CAMPBELLTOWN

Chill Fest 2026

This Friday 3 July, Campbelltown’s Koshigaya Park will transform into a Winter Wonderland as part of Chill Fest 2026.

There will be thrilling amusement rides, an open-air ice-skating rink, and mouth-watering food trucks.

There’s also roving performers, twinkling lights, and magical moments around every corner — there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Chill Fest is open every day of the school holidays. Don’t miss your chance to experience the coolest festival in town.

Campbelltown City Library – various events

Campbelltown City Library and Glenquarie (a suburb of Campbelltown) Library are hosting a series of different events throughout the holidays for kids of all ages.

On Tuesday July 7, learn all about laser cutting of jewellery, and create your own acrylic jewellery using a laser cutter.

This event is free, and will run from 10am – 11:30am.

Note: This workshop is for teenagers aged 13 – 18.

On Wednesday 8 July, there will also be a DJ Workshop for children from 11am – 12:30pm, with the workshop being presented by Stan Bravo from Sedgewick Avenue.

This workshop caters for kids aged 9 – 12.

Stan Bravo is a celebrated hip-hop artist, entrepreneur and mentor originally from Harlem, NYC, now based in Sydney. He is known for his energetic performances and passion for inspiring young creatives.

He will teach everyone the basics of DJing, including mixing, beat-matching and sound play in a fun, creative workshop.

Children will explore music and experiment with DJ equipment while developing their own sound.

And on Thursday July 9 at Glenquarie Library in Macquarie Fields, a free Drop-in Robotics workshop will run from 10am – 2pm, and caters for ages 8 –15.

SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS

NAIDOC Family Fun Day, Ngununggula Southern Highlands Regional Art Gallery

Next Monday 6 July, there will be a NAIDOC Weekl Family Fun Day from 11am – 2pm.

The event will include a Welcome to Country, a Cultural Dance, Smoking Ceremony, plus

a free BBQ lunch, stalls and lots of activities. This year’s NAIDOC Week theme is ‘50 Years Deadly’.

Comic Art Workshop

On Wednesday 8 July, the Theatrette at the Civic Centre in Moss Vale will play host to a Comic Art Workshop from 9:30am – 12:30pm.

Kids can have some fun and learn how to draw comic art with renowned artist Marcelo Baez.

Whether it’s Spiderman or Star Wars, they'll learn the secrets about how to draw their beloved characters or create their own.

It doesn't matter if you're a comic fan or not - anyone with an interest in drawing or the comic world is welcome. Morning tea also provided.

Neurodiverse Families Bikes Morning

On Thursday 9 July from 9:30am – 11:30am, and hosted in a partnership between Highlands Community Centres and Highlands Trails mountain bike club, this event caters for children and youth (plus their families) with ADHD, Autism and other neurodiverse personalities aged up to 17 years.

The team will have some bike fun planned or they can just come along to check out the trails or talk about mountain bike events.

This event is designed to connect families with local groups over bikes and trails.

They’d also love feedback to help shape more inclusive bike activity in the Highlands.

PCYC Southern Highlands School Holiday Program

PCYC Southern Highlands at Mittagong has a huge variety of exciting events for kids aged 5 – 12 years across both weeks of the holidays.

Activities include:

- Obstacle Course;

- Disco Dance Party;

- Basketball;

- Air Dry Clay;

- Multi-sport Madness;

- Rocket STEM;

Waste to Art with Southern Tablelands Arts (STARTS)

Make art not waste at a free creative workshop!

Wish upon some waste this school holidays and create a creature, machine or thing-a-ma-bob from your wildest imaginings️.

Discover how to recognise bits and bobs that have artmaking potential, then learn a variety of joining techniques to develop a 3D masterpiece that the kids can take home and treasure.

A range of salvaged materials and tools for use are provided (participants also welcome to bring some waste to transform as well).

Please note: Your child must be of Primary school age (aged 7+) to participate.

- Children must wear clothes that can get dirty and covered shoes.

The workshop will be held in the Goulburn Regional Art Gallery Education Studio.

Access to the Gallery is via the Church Street ramp entrance only.

Food and drinks (except water bottle) are not permitted in class except in circumstances where it is medically necessary for the child.

If your child requires a medical exemption, please ensure that food and drinks do not contain common allergens such as nuts.

Due to space limitations, the gallery only allow parents/guardians to remain in the education space if their child has support needs.

They also get the opportunity to enter their creation into the Wollondilly Waste to Art Prize 2026 for a chance at the $2,700 in prize money on offer.

Puppet Pals

Another activity at the gallery is a peaceful afternoon of felt finger puppet making.

Build the cast of your very own finger puppet show in felt!

Your child will learn to design and execute their own puppet pal creation to inspire endless hours of fun back at home.

Please note: Your child must be of Primary school age (aged 5+) to participate.

Refunds cannot be arranged for non-attendance.

As per their booking policy, refunds are only available to customers 7 business days prior to the session.

Art smocks are also available for children to wear at the Gallery.

Due to space limitations, they only allow parents/guardians to remain in the education space if their child has support needs.

The Goulburn Mulwaree Library has got a variety of events coming up on their school holiday calendar, including a Weaving Circle with Jodie Munday as part of NAIDOC Week, a NAIDOC Week Story Time next Monday July 6 from 10:30am – 11:30am, a Gummy Bear Story Party on Wednesday 8 July from 10:30am – 12 noon (cost $5); French knitting for kids on Tuesday 14 July from 1pm to 3pm; Junior Einstein Science Adventure and Future Engineers with Ranger Jamie on Wednesday 15 July from 10:30am – 11:30am and 12:30pm – 2:30pm.

WOLLONDILLY

Barnyard Buddies School Holiday Program

Wilfleur Homestead in Oakdale is launching their first school holiday program for kids aged 4 - 9 years.

The program will be a very intimate session, with approximately 6 - 8 children only per session.

It’s perfect for children who love animals, messy play and making new friends and experiencing new adventures! Interactive programs occur over a 2.5 - 3-hour period for the little ones to enjoy being a ‘junior farmer’. The program includes:

- Animal Interaction;

- An outdoor Scavenger Hunt; and

- Creative farm themed craft

Program days will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday in both weeks of the July school holidays.

Steam Train Rides, NSW Rail Museum, Thirlmere

Enjoy all-day access to the NSW Rail Museum plus a 40-minute heritage train ride along the historic Loop Line from Thirlmere Station to Buxton and return.

The museum also contains a huge amount of railway rollingstock and memorabilia celebrating NSW’s rich rail history. The museum advises that guests please arrive at least 15 minutes before their selected departure time, as trains will not wait for latecomers. Free Macarthur Bulls Clinics

The Macarthur Bulls Football Club is offering free football clinics in Picton, Wilton and Tahmoor from July 7 to 15.

Register your child for the clinic and give them the chance to learn new skills, make new friends, and have loads of fun.

Whether they're a beginner or already love the game, this clinic is perfect for all levels. Parents or carers must stay on site for the duration of the program.

Suitable for ages 5 - 13 years.

Kids Chocolate Lollipop Workshop at Murrumbateman Chocolate Co.

This class for kids and families is designed to provide a fun introduction to chocolate, where kids will taste sustainably produced chocolate and then get creative by moulding and decorating their own chocolate lollipops, which they will package to take home!
