Open gardens, apple festivals, car rallies and even a book exchange are just some of the interesting events on this weekend across the regions.
SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 26
Beatrice Park & Yarrabin Open Gardens
With entry to the gardens through 90 Bendooley St, Bowral, these two open gardens, 'Beatrice Park' and 'Yarrabin' have shared a common architectural and gardening history over 6000 square metres since 1958.
Both the gardens are also heritage listed and are open from 11am to 3pm this Saturday.
Beatrice Park was designed by the renowned architect Aaron Bolot, featuring an intact formal garden laid out by the Faigen family in post war Californian style.
Yarrabin was designed in the Hollywood style, with additions by Howard Tanner, and a Woodlands garden in the Edna Walling tradition, first opened by Gwen Green.
Both gardens are referenced in multiple gardening books, journals, and articles.

Tallong Apple Day Festival
As reported in The Southern Wire earlier this week, the annual Tallong Apple Day is on again this Sunday from 9am to 4pm, and now into its 20th year.
Come and celebrate Tallong’s rich apple orchard heritage, home of the Big Apple, with fun attractions, heaps of craft and food stalls, special events for children, and competitions galore!
There will be whipcracking, medieval battles, wood chopping, pig racing, pony rides, fleece to garment, bake-off, a photography competition, car and bike show, rock climbing wall, bungee jumping, live music, puppet shows, snake and reptiles, the Boral free kids activity area and loads more!
There' s also plenty of food on offer including toffee apples and apple pies.
All parking will be in Tallong for the Apple Festival, just follow the signage for the allocated space.
As there will be no trains running through Tallong on the day, a shuttle bus will run from the Marulan railway station to Tallong for the cost of a gold coin donation.
And of course, being an Apple Festival, there will be lots of apples for sale, with all proceeds going back into the community to fund projects within the Tallong region.
Admission is only $5, with kids under 5 getting in for free.

Picton ParkRun
The weekly Picton ParkRun is on again this Saturday morning at the Picton Botanic Gardens with registration from 7:55am, and the run going from 8am to 9am.
Enjoy a fun free, weekly, timed 5km walk / jog / run. Open to all ages and abilities. The event is run by volunteers.

Gaye’s Redback Motorkhana, Silverdale
The Gaye’s Redback Motorkhana will be hosted by the Hills District Car Club (HDCC) and Steve Henry this Sunday at 305 Taylors Rd, Silverdale. The drivers briefing starts from 9.45am with the event starting at 10.00am and finishes at 4.00pm.
Minimum Licence Required is a 2NS licence.
Entry costs are $62 for Adults and $32 for Juniors.
A canteen will be available on the day (CASH ONLY).

- AUS MK – Class A Production Vehicles Wheelbase up to 2150mm;
- AUS MK – Class B Production Vehicles Wheelbase 2151 to 2390mm;
- AUS MK – Class C Production Vehicles Wheelbase 2391 to 2574mm;

Held at 93 George St, the bi - monthly Marulan Book Exchange is on again this Saturday from 10am to 1pm.
The Marulan Book Exchange is run twice monthly by local volunteers, providing a valuable resource for locals and visitors alike.
This is one of the few book exchanges left in New South Wales. Bring your books and grab some new titles!

What started as a crop day for scrapbooking and cardmaking has now turned into a day for all crafters.
The fourth Sunday of every month they hold their craft day at the CWA rooms in Montague Street starting from 10am. Everyone is welcome, from scrapbookers, card makers, any other paper crafters, to knitters, beadwork, macrame fans, etc.
