SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS

FRIDAY OCTOBER 3

New York, New York Exhibition by Desmond Freeman

East Bowral resident and artist Desmond Freeman will be officially sharing his ‘New York, New York’ exhibition with everyone at the White Cottage Gallery at Retford Park Estate, Bowral. The exhibition highlights his paintings and drawings from thousands of images he took as a student when he visited New York.

This exhibition also coincides with several other events at Retford Park over the long weekend, including Open Garden, House Tours, Bowral Honey Farm Tours, and Sunset Evenings at Retford Park.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 4

Exeter Village Markets

The monthly Exeter Markets will be held this Saturday at Exeter Park in the centre of the village.

There’s plenty on offer, including plants, bread, fresh fruit, vegetables, great coffee, delicious cakes, honey, jams, relishes, sauces, preserves, handcrafted pieces, confectionary, pre-made meals, bric-a-brac, knitwear, jewellery, leather goods, candles, melts and homewares.

Try the Nepalese Dumplings at Momos on Wheel, pies from the Quiche Man, and a selection of other hot foods. Plus there’s even take home pasta and Asian meals for dinner, and what about a mead or wine tasting?

The markets start from 9am and conclude at 1:30pm.

SUNDAY OCTOBER 5

Robertson Country Fair: Celebrating 30 Years of BABE

Robertson will come alive this weekend for the 30th anniversary of the 1995 film ‘BABE’ most of which was shot on location in the village. Visitors will also be able to see the world-famous ‘Big Potato,’ now dubbed the ‘Pig Potato’, due to it being painted pink by local mural artist Samuel Hall.

The CTC at Robertson will also be hosting screenings of ‘BABE’ at the Robertson Cinema Cafe on Saturday night as well as the Robertson Hotel hosting a special ‘Babe High Tea Garden Party’.

Other events as part of the fair will include a visit from the Cockatoo Run train at Robertson station, the Waratah Festival, rides for the kids, local produce, photo booths, food stalls and a whole lot more.

The event runs from 9:30am – 3:30pm throughout the village, and starting at the Robertson School of Arts at 55 Hoddle St.

MONDAY OCTOBER 6

Picnic Train to visit Bowral and Moss Vale

To conclude Tulip Time on Monday, the Picnic Train, hauled by steam locomotive 5917, will be running to Bowral and Moss Vale departing from two locations in Sydney including Sydenham and Glenfield.

The train will depart from Sydenham at 8:30am, and arrive at Glenfield to pick up at 9:45am, arriving in Bowral at approximately 11:55am and Moss Vale at 12:10pm.

Passengers will then have the opportunity to experience what both towns have to offer for Tulip Time and can then depart from Moss Vale at 3:20pm and Bowral at 3:35pm, arriving back at Glenfield at 5pm and Sydenham at 6:30pm.

Picton Parkrun

The weekly Picton Parkrun will be hosted at the Picton Botanic Gardens this Saturday from 7:55am – 9am.

Participants can either walk, jog or run for 5kms, and it is open to all ages and abilities.

Paint and Pat at Bon Rean Highlands

Enjoy painting a Highland cow at Bon Rean Highlands at Theresa Park, near Silverdale this Sunday afternoon from 12 noon.

The session includes the painting of the cow as well as a tour of the farm where visitors can pat and feed the Highland cows and other animals on the farm.

Aprons, paints, brushes, and canvas are provided, and then everyone can take their finished canvas artworks home.

Recommended items to bring include a BYO lunch/snacks/drink/hat and even a jacket, as this is an outdoor event, and it could get chilly.

Bon Rean Highlands is located on Werombi Rd, Theresa Park.

MONDAY OCTOBER 6

Paint & Pinot: I Don’t Like Bacon at Tahmoor Inn

Paint an excellent blue vase in three hours at the Tahmoor Inn for the Paint & Pinot: I Don’t Like Bacon event.

The event organisers say that no artistic skill is required, and participants can also enjoy a glass of wine or a beer and food from the pub’s menu whilst they paint.

The event runs from 6:30pm – 9:30pm.

SOUTHERN TABLELANDS

The city of Goulburn will be buzzing this October long weekend, with several events being held at the same time including the Goulburn Lilac City Festival (see separate story on this in the What’s On section), Goulburn Workers Club Art Prize and Round 7 of the Australian Superbike Championship at One Raceway.

FRIDAY OCTOBER 3

The Goulburn Workers Annual Art Prize

The annual Goulburn Workers Art Prize will be hosted by the Goulburn Art Society at Goulburn Workers Club this October long weekend.

Artists will be judged in the following sections:

Oil;

Watercolour/Pen and Wash;

Acrylics;

Drawing;

Other Media;

Miniatures;

GDAS Members Only;

Photography;

Digital Art; and finally

The People’s Choice Award.

The event commences this Friday night from 6pm – 10pm and will be held each day over the long weekend at the following times: Saturday and Sunday 10am – 5pm and Monday 10am – 3pm.

All exhibits will also be available for sale.

Goulburn Bonsai Society 2025 Exhibition

As part of the 2025 Goulburn City Lilac Festival, the Goulburn Bonsai Society will be hosting their annual exhibition.

There will be an array of both native and exotic trees on display as well as starter trees for purchase.

This year will also feature pots from special guest ‘Potter Ben’ and other locally made items.

The Bungonia Progress Association will be holding their twice-monthly Sunday Breakfast at the Bungonia Community Hall this Sunday morning between 9am and 11am.

Goulburn Wheelbears Wheelchair Basketball, Veolia Arena

Come and try out wheelchair basketball at the Veolia Arena, Goulburn Recreation Area.

The event will be hosted by Wheelchair Sports NSW/ACT, who are the governing body for wheelchair basketball in NSW and the ACT.

The event is free, with all expenses covered including court hire, equipment, and wheelchairs.

It will run from 4:30pm – 6pm.
