SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 14

Red Dirt Hymns, Bowral Memorial Hall

Bowral Memorial Hall will play host to local composer Andrew Ford’s hymnal creation ‘Red Dirt Hymns’ tonight from 7:30pm – 8:30pm.

It has taken Ford four years to write this dedication to 16 contemporary Australian writers in the poetry, essay writing and folk singing genres.

It will be performed by the Luminescence Chamber Singers from Canberra and soloists Harley Coleman (electric guitar) and cellist Freya Schack-Arnott. Art by Sammy Hawker will also frame the background of the performance.

It has been performed to critical acclaim already at the Orange Regional Conservatorium (November 9) and at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre, Penrith, yesterday (Thursday November 13).

After Bowral it moves on to Queanbeyan and Bermagui on November 16 and 23.

Tickets are $48.50 for adults, $45 for concessions, $30 for under 30s and can be purchased at https://events.humanitix.com/reddirthymnsbowral/tickets.

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 15

Mittagong Markets

Held at the Mittagong Uniting Church on the third Saturday of the month, the Mittagong Markets are on again this Saturday from 8am – 2pm.

With a huge variety of stalls on offer (66 in all!) there will be something for everyone.

The next markets will be held on Saturday November 29.

Mittagong Uniting Church grounds are located on the corner of Albert and Alice Sts, Mittagong.

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 16

Sutton Forest Cars and Coffee, Rush Coffee van

The monthly Sutton Forest Cars and Coffee event will be held this Sunday from 10am at the Rush Coffee van behind a Little Taste of Scotland shop on the corner of the Illawarra Highway and Exeter Rd in Sutton Forest.

Similar to the gathering at Berrima, local car enthusiasts and owners of special interest cars, hot rods, classics, customs, restored, vintage, muscle cars, street machines, exotics, etc. Classic and Custom Bikes are also welcome.

There will be great coffee on sale (using local Rush coffee), as well as hot food & an assortment of pastries.

WOLLONDILLY

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 14

Liv2Learn Farmers Market, Thirlmere

Held at the Liv2Learn Early Education Centre in Marion St, Thirlmere, the Liv2Learn Farmers Market is a free market selling a variety of products from a huge range of local Wollondilly producers including Camden Valley Farm, Itchy Goat Art, Windy Oaks Produce, and much more.

There will also be live music from Camden singer-songwriter, Carly Mozsny. The event will run from 4pm – 6pm.

Liv2Learn Early Education is located at 54 Marion St, Thirlmere.

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 15

Coffee and Curves at Burra Bakery, Oakdale

Hosted by the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club (VJMC), a new event called ‘Coffee and Curves’ is held every Saturday at the Burra Bakery in Oakdale.

Coffee and Curves is a group of motorcyclists who get together and grab breakfast and a coffee and then head out for a ride throughout the countryside of the Wollondilly Shire.

They gather from 8am – 10am at the Burra Bakery, 1520 Burragorang Rd, Oakdale.

SOUTHERN TABLELANDS

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 14

Cricket NSW Southern District Plan B Open Women’s Competition

As The Southern Wire reported earlier in the week in our Sport section, the Cricket NSW Southern District Plan B Open Women's Competition will be held at Seiffert Oval in Goulburn.

The competition will see two pools of regional representative sides play a total of six T20 matches, showcasing the growing depth of women’s cricket in country NSW and the strong pathways developing future stars of the game.

One such side will be the Southern Spirit, with players from Yass, the Highlands, the Tablelands, the Monaro, the Far South Coast and the Shoalhaven.

So get along and support the girls this Saturday at Seiffert Oval, on the corner of Verner and Faithfull Sts., Goulburn.

Goulburn Speedway Race Night - Frank Nicastri Memorial - sponsored by Auto One Goulburn

This Saturday night at the Goulburn Speedway from 3pm – 10pm, the Frank Nicastri Memorial Goulburn Speedway Race Night will excite kids and families alike with vehicles competing in a variety of classes throughout the night.

Gates open from 3pm, with racing to commence from 5pm.

Tickets are $25 for adults, pensioners $12, Children under 14 - $12, a Family (2

Adults & 2 children) $55 and under school age free.

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 16

Windellama Country Markets, Village Hall

Every third Sunday of the month the Windellama Country Markets are held at the village hall, 39kms south east of Goulburn.

There will be plenty of stalls on offer selling a whole variety of foods and gifts for Christmas and other occasions.

There is also delicious home-cooked food, coffee and other refreshments available on site.

The markets will run from 9am – 1pm.
