Update: Truck completely destroyed in Hume crash
An update to our earlier story. A spokesperson for the NSW Police has told The Southern Wire that a truck driver has been airlifted to hospital with serious burns after his vehicle crashed into bushland and caught fire near the Hume Highway at Berrima.
An update to our earlier story. A spokesperson for the NSW Police has told The Southern Wire that a truck driver has been airlifted to hospital with serious burns after his vehicle crashed into bushland and caught fire near the Hume Highway at Berrima.
Emergency services responded to the crash about 10.45am on Tuesday.
The driver and sole occupant, a 34-year-old man, managed to free himself from the burning truck.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated him at the scene before he was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition.
The truck was completely destroyed, while the blaze also damaged surrounding bushland before Rural Fire Service crews extinguished it.
Officers from The Hume Police District have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Police are asking anyone with information, or relevant dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area, to contact Southern Highlands Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
