Transport for NSW under fire – again – as Marulan works continue
One frustrated motorist has described the traffic chaos as “apocalyptic” and has questioned the lack of notice.

Transport for NSW is under fire again for delays on the Hume Highway near Marulan.
One frustrated motorist has described the traffic chaos as “apocalyptic” and has questioned the lack of notice.
The Southern Wire first alerted readers in January that more works would be carried out near Brayton Road between February 16 and March 5, weather permitting.
More than a month later – just days before the work was scheduled to commence – Transport for NSW advised motorists that there would be changed traffic conditions on the highway for slab replacement works.
Northbound traffic is being diverted onto southbound lanes under contraflow with a reduced speed limit of 80km/h.
Dean Pryke said he had been caught in a traffic jam stretching several kilometres on his way back from Goulburn.
“It would have been nice if some advice about these roadworks could have been given on social media or TV so we don’t get trapped in these unexpected jams,” he said on Facebook.
Another motorist said it had taken her 85 minutes to travel Goulburn to Marulan – a trip normally expected to take between 20-30 minutes.
Another said she had been stuck in traffic jam stretching approximately 10km.
Motorists who travel between the Southern Highlands and Goulburn on a regular basis say it is particularly bad on Friday afternoons and evenings and on Sunday evenings.
Other social media users were not exactly overflowing with sympathy – suggesting people use the LiveTraffic app before setting out on a journey or use an alternate route (via Towrang, Brayton and Marulan).
Others said there had been notifications every morning on local radio.
According to the NSW Government, Live Traffic has a “well-established reputation for reliable, actional, real-time information about disruptions to state roads”.
