The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), in partnership with the RFS will be carrying out a scheduled hazard reduction burn tomorrow (Thursday 25 September) at Wooglamai in the Nattai National Park, directly south of Sheehys Creek Road at Lakesland.
The burn will be carried out over a 92-hectare (228.2 acre) area for a period of three days.
The RFS advises that if a hazard reduction burn is carried out in a particular area, residents must:
Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke entering their homes;
Keep outdoor furniture under cover to prevent ember burns;
Retract pool covers to prevent ember damage;
Remove washing from clotheslines;
Ensure pets have a protected area;
Vehicles must slow down, keep windows up, and turn headlights on; and
Sightseers must keep away from burns for their own safety.
If anyone has asthma or a lung condition, they must reduce outdoor activities if smoke levels are high and if shortness of breath or coughing develops, take their reliever medicine or seek medical advice. More info is available on the Asthma Australia website at https://asthma.org.au/.
