Road safety projects across the region will help save lives
A number of ‘lifesaving’ road safety projects across the region are being funded as part of the 2026 Road Safety Program.

A number of ‘lifesaving’ road safety projects across the region are being funded as part of the 2026 Road Safety Program.
The program is jointly funded by the State and Federal Governments and has been described as “one of the most significant targeted safety investments currently rolling out across regional NSW”.
Nine projects are being funded at a cost of more than $5 million across the Upper Lachlan, Wingecarribee and Yass Valley shires.
It represents more than a quarter of the $19.7 million being invested in 33 road safety improvements across regional NSW.
One of the biggest projects being funded locally will be the installation of a footpath and refuges on Park Road, Purcell Street and Derby Street in Bowral at a cost of more than $1 million.
State-wide, the projects will deliver critical safety upgrades including wombat crossings, refuges, kerb ramps and shared paths for pedestrians and cyclists.
They will also include improved roundabouts, lighting, fencing, safety barriers and bus bays to ensure better access to public transport.
Minister for Regional Development and Local Government Kristy McBain said the projects would make a ‘significant difference’ to road safety in NSW.
“As someone who represents an electorate that covers more than 30,000 square kilometres, I know how important it is that people who travel on NSW’s regional road network get home safely each time they travel,” she said.
NSW Minister for Roads and Regional Transport Jenny Aitchison said the funding would help deliver ‘critical infrastructure upgrades’ and would help reduce road deaths and serious injuries.
“These upgrades and other initiatives are saving lives, however they cannot override a decision made when we sit in the driver’s seat,” she said.
“We should all make safety our number one priority and drive responsibly whenever we drive.
“We owe it to ourselves, to the people we love and to those we share the road with.”
Member for Whitlam Carol Berry visited one of the upgrade sites in Bowral on Thursday morning and said she was “really pleased” the State and Federal Governments were making these investments “to make our roads safer”.
