“Risk Of Death”: Toxic Children’s Finger Paint

Only days after we reported on children’s play sand being recalled over asbestos concerns, we are now reporting an online retailer being hit with a string of product recalls.
One of the recalled products is a children’s finger-painting kit found to contain toxic substances including methanol and ethylene glycol.
The finger painting kit was sold between October 2023 and January 2025. Only now are we being told that the product allegedly posed serious health risks and should not have been used by children.
The online retailer involved is TheKiddoSpace.
The children’s finger-painting kit was sold nationally online between October 2023 and January 2025.
The ACCC warning states there is a “risk of serious health effects, including death if children ingest the finger-paint”, along with risks of skin irritation and swollen lymph nodes from contact with the paint.
A single retailer having 7 products recalled in one day is extremely concerning.
The recall notices indicate the products were manufactured in China.
Something more needs to be done by the Government and regulators to protect us all.
We cannot accept children's products containing asbestos one week, followed by toys allegedly containing toxic substances linked to potential 'death' the next.
We deserve stronger protections, faster recalls, stricter import screening and greater accountability for products entering the country and ending up in family homes.
