It’s been hard not to notice the meteoric rise in fuel prices over the last few weeks due to global circumstances in the Middle East, which are mostly beyond our control.

Current prices for E10 unleaded fuel across the Southern Highlands range from $2.47 a litre up to $2.59 (at Ampol and BP Fuels on Main St in Mittagong - a whopping 12 cents difference), with diesel also varying from the lowest ($2.99 a litre at Westside Fuel in Bundanoon) up to $3.19 a litre for premium diesel (at BP Mittagong) - a 20 cent difference.

In the Wollondilly, prices for E10 and Unleaded 91 are similar, from $2.47 a litre at Pheasant’s Nest (up 20 cents from only last weekend, when it was $2.27 a litre) and Shell Express Picton, to the highest ($2.59 for E10) at BP Wilton and a massive $2.74 for Unleaded 91 at Douglas Park Service Station.

Diesel prices also vary, with the price at $3.09 a litre at most service stations across the shire, and the highest being $3.19 a litre at BP in Wilton and again the Douglas Park Service Station, a difference of 10 cents.

In Camden, the cheapest price for E10 is $2.45 a litre at the Independent Camden on Argyle St, and most of the other service stations at Camden, Narellan and Mt Annan are all within the 247.5 cents a litre and 247.9 cents a litre range.

In Campbelltown it is much the same story, with the exception being the Independent Service Station on St John’s Rd, Bradbury charging $2.45 a litre.

For diesel, the cheapest is $3.02 for Premium Diesel, again at the Independent Camden on Argyle St.

The most expensive is $3.11 a litre at the Ampol in Smeaton Grange.

In the Southern Tablelands, E10 is currently $2.45 a litre at Caltex on George St in Marulan, with the prices across the nine service stations in Goulburn averaging between $2.49 and $2.57 a litre.

For diesel, the cheapest in Goulburn is $2.99 a litre at the Budget service station on Sydney Rd at the entrance to the city, and the most expensive is $3.15 a litre at BP Merino Fuels on Clifford St, a difference of 16 cents a litre.

The Upper Lachlan is where the price rise is felt the most, with Crookwell’s two service stations, the Metro service station on Carrington St ($2.63 a litre), and $2.65 a litre at the Mobil on Goulburn St.

The only service station in Taralga, the Ampol Reel on the corner of Bunnaby and Orchard Sts. is $2.57 a litre for Unleaded 91, with Premium Unleaded 98 at $2.73 a litre and diesel at $3.10/L.

In Crookwell, the cheapest diesel is $3.11 a litre at the Mobil in Goulburn St, and $3.14/L at the Metro service station on Carrington St for Premium Diesel.

At Yass, the cheapest is $2.46 a litre for E10 at Ampol Foodary on Yass Valley Way near the Hume Highway, and the most expensive $2.60 a litre at both the Yass Valley Servo and Ampol Foodary on Comur St.

For diesel, prices at all the Yass service stations bar one are $3.12 a litre, except ironically for the Ampol Foodary on Yass Valley Way near the Hume Highway charging $3.15 a litre for Premium Diesel.

The 7 – day average fuel price for E10 across NSW according to the NSW Government’s own monitoring website, Fuel Check, is 242.4 cents, up a whopping 57 cents, with traditionally the cheapest day to fill up being a Thursday.

And for diesel, the 7-day average fuel price is 295.6 cents ($2.95), up 4.6 cents, again with the cheapest day to fill up being a Thursday.

To monitor the prices of fuel, there are two websites that people can view that give up – to – date analyses of towns all across NSW every day.

They are the NSW Government’s ‘Fuel Check’, at www.fuelcheck.nsw.gov.au, and ‘Petrol Spy’ - https://petrolspy.com.au/.
