Raptor Squad officers have charged two teenage girls after an allegedly stolen Mercedes was pursued along the Hume Motorway through the Southern Highlands.
Raptor Squad officers have charged two teenage girls after an allegedly stolen Mercedes was pursued along the Hume Motorway through the Southern Highlands.
Police were told a Mercedes station wagon had allegedly been stolen from a car park on Inman Road at Cromer about 8.30am on Wednesday.
About two hours later, officers from The Hume Police District spotted the Mercedes on the Hume Motorway at Berrima.
Police activated their warning lights and attempted to stop the vehicle, but when the driver allegedly failed to stop, a pursuit was launched.
The chase continued north along the Hume Motorway before police terminated the pursuit near the Bargo exit due to safety concerns.
About 1.30pm, Raptor Squad officers located the Mercedes in a car park on Elizabeth Drive at Kemps Creek.
Police subsequently arrested two girls, aged 17 and 15, inside a nearby store.
The pair were taken to Liverpool Police Station.
The 17-year-old was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, and driving a motor vehicle during a disqualification period.
The 15-year-old was charged with being carried in a conveyance without the consent of the owner.
Both girls were refused bail and were due to appear before a children's court on Thursday.
