Picton Sportsgrounds works now complete

Work is now complete on the new multipurpose fields at the Picton Sportsgrounds nearest to Stonequarry Creek.
The work carried out included earthworks, drainage, irrigation and improvements to the lighting.
A spokesperson for Wollondilly Shire Council said the grass still requires some time and sunshine to knit together before the grounds are ready for community use.
The Picton Sportsground upgrade was funded by the NSW Government under their Multi-Sport Community Facility Fund 2022/23.
“We thank them for their generous contribution to sport in Wollondilly,” the Council spokesperson added.
Mayor Matt Gould also expressed his pride in the updated facility.
“It is fantastic to see the new multipurpose fields completed at Picton Sportsground, with bright new floodlighting that makes them usable both day and night,” he said.
“The oval now includes several Oztag fields and a synthetic cricket pitch. This is part of the Picton Parklands Masterplan, developed in 2022 through engagement with the community and stakeholders, and follows on from the completion of the impressive amenities extension that was opened in April this year.
“Sporting facilities such as this play a vital role in keeping our community healthy, active, and connected. I’d like to thank the NSW Government for their contribution to funding these improvements.”
Member for Wollondilly, Judy Hannan echoed the Mayor’s comments regarding the sportsground.
“It is great to see the expansion of the Picton Sportsground,” she said.
“The new multipurpose fields will be used for soccer, cricket and Oztag, expanding the existing fields and allowing for more competition. It is great to see Council apply for these larger grants that are supported by the Government. Thank you to the community that had their say about the project, and I can't wait to see the fields used."
