New display home shows sustainable living at its affordable best
A new ‘net zero’ display home has been officially opened in North Wilton.

A new ‘net zero’ display home has been officially opened in North Wilton.
This opening was attended by the NSW Minister for Planning and Public Spaces, Paul Scully as well as Member for Wollondilly Judy Hannan and Wollondilly mayor Matt Gould as well as representatives from McDonald Jones Homes and Landcom.
“This operational zero-emission home demonstration shows what’s possible using off-the-shelf solutions, smart design and practical integration,” Mrs Hannan said.
“As an educational display home, it gives families a clear picture of how sustainable living can be achieved by volume home builders, within realistic budgets, as families choose their preferred specifications.”
The home at 4 Harvest Way is being described as an “interactive” experience that could save homeowners up to $1700 a year on their energy bills.
Built to a 6-Star Green Star sustainable living standard, the home includes double glazing, recycled materials, LED lighting and water-saving fixtures.
The home features slab edge insulation, a low-carbon concrete slab and insulated door systems – all helping to reduce energy costs while increasing comfort.
Health and energy performance are also prioritised through low-VOC paints, sealants and joinery, a solar inverter and battery and all-electric appliances, highlighting the benefits of an all-electric, gas-free community.
Many of these features can be retrofitted to existing homes, making net zero living more accessible for households across the community.
Landcom says visitors to the home will get a “practical, hands-on look at clever technologies and design choices that make life more comfortable, healthy and affordable”.
“Visitors will be able to explore cutting-edge renewable energy solutions, passive design principles, and innovative building materials firsthand,” Landcom says on its website.
