Mums tell us what they want for Mother’s Day
Mums from across the regions will be celebrating Mother’s Day this Sunday 10 May, and kids and Dads (or boyfriends/partners) will be on hand and will be expected to pamper Mum with either quality time together, breakfast in bed, a lovely bunch of flowers or a thoughtful gift.

The Southern Wire asked Mums to tell us some good and not so good presentsthey have received for Mother’s Day.
Here are some of the responses we have received.
A Wollondilly mum who has referred to herself as ‘Articulate Llama 7890’ on Facebook gave us her account of the best and worst Mother’s Day gifts she received.
“Best gift - yet to happen but I have hope - coffee, flowers, a handmade card.... to be shown appreciation and hopefully no fights or drama to ruin the day of peace,” she said.
“Worst - My ex organised breakfast with the kids, only to have my ex’s then girlfriend of a few weeks turn up and he got the kids to gift her Mother's Day cards, jewellery, and flowers etc. whilst I watched on like I didn’t exist or birthed our children! I held it together for the sake of the kids and then left bawling (sic) my eyes out.”
Also, on the Wollondilly Life Facebook page, Janine Attard posted:
“Best gift I ever received was a portrait of my sons with their wives and children. Don’t think I have ever had a bad gift.......... Just having them in my life is a gift,” she said.
Southern Highlands mum Sue Kahan posted on the Southern Highlands Community Notice Board:
“Best Mother’s Day gift = A home made Mother’s Day card from my children when they were little, and currently from my granddaughters,” she said.
“There is no such thing as a bad Mother’s Day gift!”
Particularly important was an email The Southern Wire received from psychologist Vanessa Kmet:
“I'm a local psychologist and mum.
,I can speak to what mums are actually wanting on Mothers Day.
“A lot of mothers aren’t actually craving big gestures. They want one day where they’re not managing everyone else’s needs, moods, plans or experience of the day itself.
“Which is why ‘special plans’ can sometimes completely miss the mark.”
Melissa Aimee from the Goulburn Community Noticeboard: “My kids always got me little plants from their school Mother’s Day stalls.... They know my love of plants ha-ha.”
Ebony Valdivia also replied on the Goulburn Community Noticeboard – “A not so great gift - A trip to a brewery (out of this area) which only served beer and I don’t drink alcohol!”
Manz Luxford (GCN) - I’ve just moved here, and my kids and I (they are all adults now) volunteer at the Mother’s Day Classic in Canberra every year - that’s the best present for me we’ve done it for 20 years now!” she said.
“It’s my favourite day.”
Tina Berg, again on the Goulburn Community Noticeboard, said: “I got a block of wood one year that my daughter got from the schools Mother’s Day stall. Not sure why someone would think that was a good gift to wrap and sell, but it gave us a laugh!”
Happy Mother’s Day to all mums for this Sunday.
