Locals honoured in King’s Honours list

Several residents (and former residents) from across the regions have been recognised in The King’s Birthday 2026 Honours List. Further details and interviews with some of the recipients coming soon!
The Honours List was announced late last night (Sunday) by Governor-General and Chancellor of the Order of Australia, Sam Mostyn.
Local recipients (or recipients with strong ties to the region) included:
· Professor Timothy John Entwisle of Bowral – Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the General Division
For distinguished service to environmental conservation, to botanical sciences, to the media, to tertiary education and to the community
- Timothy Entwisle of Bowral has played key roles at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney and Melbourne for more than 40 years. He was Executive Director at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney from 2003 to 2011 and Director and Chief Executive of the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne from 2013 to 2023.
Professor Entwisle is a former Vice President of the Botanic Gardens of Australia and New Zealand, former chair of the Council of Heads of Australian Botanic Gardens and a former President of the International Association of Botanic Gardens (2016-2025). He is also a former President of the Australian Systematic Botany Society (1996-1999) and Director of the Blue Mountains World Heritage Institute (2005-2009).
He has had regular media commitments for more than 10 years and has taken on numerous other roles and responsibilities including Acting Commissioner for the Land and Environment Court. He has been a Patron of the Southern Highlands Botanic Gardens in Bowral since 2025.
· Mrs Kathryn Mary Vines of Bowral – Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the General Division
For significant service to community health through cancer support
- Kathryn Vines is founder of Rare Cancers Australia and has been a Director since 2012. She founded the Rare Cancers Australia Patient Treatment Fund in 2015 and was Head of Patient Care and creator of the Rare Cancers 360 Patient Navigation Model from 2012 to 2022.
Mrs Vine was also a co-founder of CanForm (2014-2022) and a member of the Patient Voice Initiative steering committee. She has been associate investigator on a number of trials and studies and is a member of both the National Oncology Alliance and the Cli nical Oncology Society of Australia (2015-2022).
· Mrs Linda Emery of Bowral – Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division.
For service to the community of Wingecarribee
- Linda Emery has been an integral member of the Berrima District Historic Family and Historical Society since 1989. She has held numerous positions over the years from newsletter editor to Senior Vice President. She has also been a member of Wingecarribee Shire Council’s Heritage Working Group and the Bong Bong Common Management Committee.
She has also served on roles with the Australian Historical Society and has worked as a researcher for the SBS program ‘ Who do you think you are?’
She has authored a numbered of publications relating to the Southern Highlands.
· Mr Geoffrey Samuel Prenter of Bowral – Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division
For service to the print media as a sports journalist
- Geoffrey Prenter has a long history as a sports journalist including stints with The Sun (Sydney) and The Daily Telegraph (also in Sydney).
He was the founding Editor of Rugby League Week.
· Mr Frank Laurence Meng of Goulburn – Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division
For service to the community and to engineering
· Mr Gary Ronald Worboys APM of Goulburn – Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the General Division
For significant service to the community through emergency response organisations
· The late Mrs Kathleen Mary Walcott of Goulburn – Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division
For service to tennis and to the community of Goulburn
- Mrs Walcott was actively involved in the Goulburn Tennis Club for more than 50 years as a player, office holder and volunteer from the late 1950s through until 2018. She was named a life member of the club in 1990. In 2014 she was named NSW Senior Volunteer of the Year for the South Coast/Southern Inland Region.
· Mr James Bell of Breadalbane – Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division
For service to the arts, particularly through music and theatre
- Mr Bell has been a Board Member of the Australian Elizabethan Trust since 2002, the William Fletcher Foundation since 2013 and the Seaborn Broughton and Wilford Foundation since 2015. He is Deputy Chair and Honorary Treasurer of the William Fletcher Foundation and served on the fundraising committee for the Bell Shakespeare Company for 10 years.
He was a Board Member of the NSW Polo Association for almost 15 years (2000-2014) and President of the Goulburn Polo and Picnic Race Club for more than 10 years.
Mr Bell has been a Board Member of the St Paul’s College Foundation since 1997 and a Fellow of St Paul’s College (The University of Sydney) since 1996. He was actively involved in the annual St Paul’s College production Victoriana! as a producer and performer for 50 years from 1974 to 2024. Victoriana! is believed to be Australia’s longest running theatrical production.
· Mrs Pauline Mary Coady of Braidwood – Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division
For service to community social welfare
- Mrs Coady was a founding member of the Braidwood branch of Amnesty International and has filled a number of positions with the branch since 1997. She has taken on the roles of event coordinator for the Braidwood Conference of St Vincent de Paul as well as for local NAIDOC Week celebrations and the biennial Two Fires Festival.
Mrs Coady is a member of St Bede’s Catholic Church and has assisted with the church’s fundraising efforts. She was co-founder of ‘Spirituality in the Pub’ in Braidwood in 1990.
She was a teacher in Brigidine College in Randwick for 24 years and in 1995 co-ordinated a student-led initiative led initiative to preserve land in Cape York.
· Dr Mark Lintermans of Bungendore – Member of the Oder of Australia (AM) in the General Divisioon
- For significant service to freshwater conservation and the environment and to fisheries ecology
· Mr Brian Anthony Lulham of Birchgrove – Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division
For service to sport and to the law
- Mr Lulham was actively involved in both the Goulburn and District Junior Cricket Association and the Goulburn and District Cricket Association for many years as President, Secretary, Member, sponsor and umpire. He is a Life Member of the Goulburn Rugby Union Football Club and served as Secretary and pro-bono solicitor. He was also the club’s inaugural licensee.
Mr Lulham has also been actively involved in a number of other sporting groups including the Moree District Cricket Association, the Moree Rugby Union Club, the ACT Rugby Referees Association, ACT and Southern NSW Rugby Union and the Sydney Cricket Club (Life Member, 2011).
Mr Lulham was present of the Magistrates Association of NSW for six years. He was a Local Court Magistrate in Moree (1992-1995), Broken Hill (1996-1997) and at Downing Centre in Sydney (1998-2008). He was an Acting Magistrate from 2008-2013 and has taken on a number of roles with the NSW Attorney General’s Department.
· Mr David Dalroy Funnell of Ellis Lane – Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division
- For service to local government and to the community of Camden
