The Southern Wire is a local, independent, online newspaper.
Launched in September 2025, the rapid growth in readership reflects the hard work put in by our amazing journalists.
Hundreds of thousands of views monthly through Facebook alone before we even talk about our website which is the primary way to read our news.
As we publish this article, this week alone, we have had over a hundred thousand views.

What are the Local Business Awards?
Have you seen the “Local Business Awards” logo on a shop window or business website and wondered what it is for?
The “Local Business Awards” is a program which recognises the achievements of small and local businesses within local government areas.
How does it work?
Businesses can be nominated for an award in several categories.
The judging of the awards is in two stages.
Stage one is community voting. This is where the public nominates and votes for their favourite local business in each category.
Stage two is professional judging. This is where finalists are then evaluated based on business information, online presence and sometimes mystery shoppers.
How are businesses judged?
Businesses are judged against criteria. This process ensures the judging is fair.
Presentation Night:
The annual Gala Presentation Evening is where the awards are presented to the winning businesses. They are exciting and lavish affairs and local politicians attend to support businesses in their constituencies.
