An ultra-rare HSV GTSR W1 Maloo has smashed Australian auction records, selling for $1.2 million and becoming the most expensive Holden ever sold.

The vehicle — finished in distinctive XU3 Yellah paint — was sold by Lloyds Auctions following intense global interest during the company’s December 2025 classic car auction event.

Build number 001 of just four W1 Malloos ever produced, the ute was ultimately secured through private negotiations two days after the main auction closed, after speculation earlier in the week that it may not meet expectations.

The Maloo is effectively brand new, with just 26 kilometres on the odometer. It has never been registered and remains in delivery condition.

It is also the only W1 ever finished in XU3 Yellah, and is powered by Australia’s most potent production engine — a 474kW supercharged LS9 V8 — cementing its status as a modern Holden icon.

Lee Hames of Lloyds said the sale silenced any doubt about the vehicle’s appeal.

“Whispers of doubt turned into roaring reality,” Mr Hames said. “This $1.2 million result obliterates expectations."

Collectors from around the world participated in the bidding, underlining the enduring global demand for elite HSV performance vehicles long after local manufacturing ceased.

The record-breaking result surpasses previous seven-figure Holden sales, with the Yellah W1 Maloo now firmly etched into Australian motoring history.
