Hannan ramps up push for increased police presence in Wollondilly
Member for Wollondilly Judy Hannan is ramping up her push for an increased police presence in the local area including a 24-hour police station in Picton.
Member for Wollondilly Judy Hannan is ramping up her push for an increased police presence in the local area including a 24-hour police station in Picton.
The Wollondilly MP has been pounding the pavement seeking support for an ePetition to be presented to the NSW Legislative Assembly calling for the creation of a Wollondilly Police Area Command (PAC).
She says it is something she has been advocating for many years – along with “a large number” of community members.
It is an issue she has already raised in State Parliament through questions to the Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism as well as through speeches and personal representations to the State Government.
Mrs Hannan said police presence in the Wollondilly electorate was currently shared by officers from other commands including Camden, Campbelltown, Penrith and Moss Vale with “extensive travel times” and overtime payments required to attend local incidents.
Mrs Hannan’s petition calls on the NSW Government to acknowledge that growth in the Wollondilly needs more police with “quicker, more efficient response times”.
She wants a new PAC based in Picton, a 24-hour manned police station in Picton and permanent staff for the police stations in The Oaks and Warragamba.
She also wants a new police station in Wilton.
The ePetition has already been signed by more than 1300 people.
“Our families deserve to feel safe and our growing community deserves proper police coverage,” she said.
Those people wanting to sign the petition can do so by visiting www.parliament.nsw.gov.au and following the links to ePetitions.
Anyone wanting to sign the petition must be a NSW resident.
