Wollondilly residents are being encouraged to check their eligibility under the Federal Government’s new Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) Nose Insulation Program.

Member for Wollondilly Judy Hannan said residents of Silverdale and Wallacia could now apply for free noise treatment in their homes – as can those in Luddenham, Greendale and Kemps Creek.

The program will be open for three years – but the first cargo flights will take off from July 9 and curfew-free passenger services will commence in October.

Mrs Hannan said the works would be tailored for each individual property and would help provide “peace of mind” for residents as the airport prepares to move into operational mode.

“There’s noise abatement with blinds, there’s noise abatement of windows and things like that and it will depend on where they (residents) are situated and what things are suitable for them,” Mrs Hannan said.

She added that that the amount of noise local residents would receive from the new airport “is not as bad as some people think it’s going to be”.

While the program will run for three years, the application period will only be open for two years and will close in April 2028.

According to the Federal Government, the noise insulation program was one of several measures identified to help address the impact of WSI’s flight paths and had been developed using feedback through public consultation on the draft Environment Impact Statement for the new airport.

The program will also be open to other “noise sensitive buildings” including schools, childcare centres, health and medical facilities and places of worship within the eligibility area.

Participation in the program will be free of charge and entirely voluntary.

While there has been plenty of talk about the positive impact the new Greater Western Sydney International Airport will have on the region’s economy, there is also growing anxiety about the impact it will have on the quality of life for those residents impacted by noise.
