A popular 2-litre stainless steel drink bottle sold at Kmart and Target has been recalled after reports the lid can 'eject' when used with hot liquids.

The Anko-branded bottles, sold in black and khaki, may have a defect where the lid threading shrinks when exposed to heat.

This can cause the lid to suddenly release under pressure, posing a risk of serious injury.

The ACCC has warned that the defect could lead to lacerations from the lid striking users, as well as burns from hot liquid.

Incidents have already been reported.

The bottles were on sale between 25 June 2025 and 6 March 2026.

The recall applies to 2L stainless steel drink bottles with the following product numbers:

Kmart

  • Khaki: 43544523

  • Black: 43544530

Target

  • Khaki: 70967722

  • Black: 70967739

Consumers are urged not to use the bottles for hot liquids.

Anyone who has purchased the product can return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Customers who are unable to return the item, or who have passed it on to someone else, are advised to contact the retailer directly.
