Entries open for $8,000 Nature Writing Prize
Local writers have the chance to win an $8,000 prize as entries open for the 2026 Nature Writing Prize.

Local writers have the chance to win an $8,000 prize as entries open for the 2026 Nature Writing Prize.
Run by The Nature Conservancy Australia, the biennial competition invites essays exploring a relationship with some aspect of the Australian landscape in the 'Writing of Place' genre.
The winning entry will receive $8,000 and be published in Australian Book Review, while a Highly Commended Prize of $1,000 will also be awarded.
Entries must be between 3,000 and 5,000 words and are open to Australian citizens and permanent residents.
The Nature Conservancy Australia Country Director Lara Gallagher said the prize was created to celebrate nature writing and encourage a greater appreciation of Australia's natural heritage.
"This collaboration with Australian Book Review offers the Prize a new level of support, expanding its reach and cementing its place as one of Australia's leading nature writing initiatives," she said.
Submissions opened today (1 July) and close at 5pm on 23 September. Entry costs $30.
