Breaking: Wingecarribee wins major award for 'excellence' in communication
Wingecarribee Shire Council are celebrating a big win today at the Local Government Awards for Excellence in Communication.
Wingecarribee Shire Council are celebrating a big win today at the Local Government Awards for Excellence in Communication.
Council were highly commended for their 'Excellence in Communication', specifically for the "Rewilding Mittagong Pool - Community Engagement Campaign".
The Mittagong pool rewilding project is a controversial proposal which involves the ongoing closure of the Mittagong pool and a rewilding of the site. The proposal would see the site return to natural swimming without lifeguards.
It has previously been reported that the rewilding project will cost around $10 million, with funding still to be secured.
Council also self-nominated for two additional awards, for their Christmas celebrations in the 'Innovation in Special Events' category and for their Arts and Culture Strategic Plan, but were not successful.
The Local Government NSW Excellence Awards recognise achievements across councils in areas including planning, communications, community engagement, environmental initiatives and governance.
Mayor Darcy Byrne, President of Local Government NSW, congratulated all winners and said that the winning councils "show what's possible when local leadership is backed by vision, creativity and a commitment to community".
