Wollondilly Shire Council Mayor Matt Gould is advising Picton drivers to avoid the area between Colden St and Victoria Park due to a serious crash on Menangle St.

"There is a serious crash on Menangle Street at Picton in between Colden St and Victoria Park," Mayor Gould said.

"A helicopter is also currently using Victoria Park. For anyone travelling through Picton tonight, please avoid the area if possible and take extra time and care, as Menangle Street is closed and the main street traffic is very heavy.

"Advice from NSW Police is that the road will likely be closed for some time."

"One woman was airlifted to Liverpool Hospital in a serious condition, while a man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Liverpool Hospital also.

"Traffic diversions remain in place as the police operation continues."
