Gareth Ward was sent to prison for 5 years and 9 months today.

Former Liberal/Independent Member for Kiama was sentenced a short while ago in the District Court of NSW, completing a dramatic fall from grace.

Judge Kara Shead ordered that Ward serve 5 years and 9 months in Gaol. The Judge further ordered that Ward serve a non-parole period of 3 years and 9 months. Ward faced a maximum penalty of 14 years for one charge and 5 years for the other.

Ward will be eligible for parole in early 2029. Judge Shead took into account Ward's sight disability in arriving at the sentence. Judge Shead 'praised' the victims and said they showed 'courage'.

Judge Shead determined that Ward's acts were 'deliberate and predatory'.

The Southern Wire understands Ward intends to appeal the convictions.
