Another sign that work will restart at Tahmoor Colliery

In another positive sign for unemployed Wollondilly miners, the consortium hoping to take over the Tahmoor Colliery is seeking expressions of interest from ‘experienced mine professionals’ for a number of positions when operations recommence.
The GEAR M Consortium (GM3) is seeking expressions of interest in 26 positions at the colliery (see full list at bottom of story) but has advised the positions are subject to completion of the proposed acquisition of the colliery’s assets “and the satisfaction of applicable regulatory and other requirements”.
The individual position advertisements say GM3 is “excited about the opportunity to bring Tahmoor Mine back into operation under new operatorship and is inviting expressions of interest from experienced mining professionals who would like to be a part of its next chapter”.
GM3 says the advertised positions represent a “unique opportunity to be part of the next chapter of a mine with a proud history, helping establish a strong culture, rebuild capability and contribute to the long-term success of the operation”.
GM3 says its people are the key to its success.
“They are the heart of what we strive to do – deliver safely and reliably at our existing operations, create opportunity for the future and provide high-quality coal to our customers,” its website says.
“Our people are rewarded and well-remunerated for their experience and their performance with competitive salaries and bonuses; a range of corporate benefits; and opportunities to grow and develop”.
As reported by The Southern Wire in June, GM3 has signed a binding agreement to acquire the Tahmoor Colliery.
Reportedly, it has also signalled a commitment to working with former employees, local communities, suppliers and stakeholders “to improve performance, support sustainability and secure long-term employment”.
GM3 is hoping to restart operations at the colliery as soon as possible – subject to Federal Government approval – and there has been talk this could happen within the next few months.
More than 200 workers were left unemployed after the closure of the colliery in late March sending shockwaves across the region.
The colliery – previously owned by British-Indian billionaire Sanjeev Gupta – was initially placed into voluntary administration but the NSW Supreme Court placed it in the hands of liquidators shortly afterwards, with Justice Ashley Black finding it would be unlikely to reopen under the (then) current management.
Local political leaders have long contended the colliery remains viable and have blamed its closure on financial mismanagement.
The GM3 Consortium is comprised of M Resources and its bidding partner GEAR.
M Resources Pty is the private mining investment vehicle owned by coal industry figure Matt Latimore while Golden Energy Pty Ltd GEAR is backed by the billionaire Widjaja family from Indonesia.
GM3’s operations include the Appin and Dendrobium mines.
