A new multi-level car park has officially opened in Picton, adding more than 235 parking spaces to the town centre as Wollondilly Shire Council looks to support future growth.
The Walton Street Carpark was officially opened by Wollondilly Shire Council and forms part of the broader Wollondilly Cultural Precinct.
The facility includes accessible parking on the ground floor and additional parking on the rooftop level. Council said the project has resulted in Picton having more than 200 additional parking spaces.
The project was jointly funded through a $5 million contribution from the NSW Government's State Voluntary Planning Agreement Funding Program and Wollondilly Shire Council's development contributions.
Wollondilly Mayor Matt Gould said the new facility would benefit both residents and local businesses.
"There is now more car parking in Picton than we have ever seen before, supporting local residents and businesses alike in this beautiful town," he said.
"As Wollondilly continues to grow, we need to make sure our towns and villages have the infrastructure to keep pace with the needs of visitors, workers and our community.
"This new facility will make it easier for people to access Picton's services and businesses, while supporting the amenity that makes the town such a special place."
NSW Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said the project demonstrated how state funding could help councils deliver important infrastructure.
"This project is another strong example of the NSW Government empowering councils with funding to deliver important community infrastructure," he said.
"The upgraded car park will ease parking congestion and support local businesses by encouraging more people to visit Picton's vibrant town centre."
The Walton Street Carpark will support visitors to the recently completed Wollondilly Civic Centre and other facilities within the Wollondilly Cultural Precinct.
The carpark will open to he public next week.
