Yass Valley has begun its NAIDOC Week celebrations, with Mayor Jasmin Jones joining representatives from the Onerwal Local Aboriginal Land Council, to mark the start of the week today (Sunday.)

An opening ceremony at the Crago Mill Precinct, was followed by an art exhibition.

Mayor Jones described it as "an exciting start to NAIDOC Week in Yass Valley", celebrating culture and community while encouraging residents to take part in the week-long program of events.

The celebrations continue on Monday from 10am with Elder Storytelling at the Yass library.

One of the highlights of the week will be NAIDOC market day on Saturday 11 July at the Crago Mill Precinct. The market day will conclude NAIDOC week across the Yass Valley.

This year's NAIDOC Week theme recognises the achievements of the past while looking to the future by honouring the strength of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders and the legacy passed down through generations.
