World class musicians to bring global sounds to Goulburn
Music lovers will be taken on a journey around the world without leaving Goulburn later this month when Postcards: Melodies from Afar comes to the Goulburn Performing Arts Centre.
Music lovers will be taken on a journey around the world without leaving Goulburn later this month when Postcards: Melodies from Afar comes to the Goulburn Performing Arts Centre.
Presented in association with Musica Viva Australia, the performance will be staged on Saturday, 25 July and promises an evening blending jazz, classical, folk and world music traditions from across the globe.
The concert features a series of musical "postcards", taking audiences from Parisian jazz and Brazilian bossa nova to Swedish folk music and Baroque masterpieces. The program also includes original compositions inspired by places and cultures from around the world.
Audiences will hear works by legendary musicians including Django Reinhardt and Antônio Carlos Jobim, alongside traditional Scandinavian and West African music, before the evening concludes with Johann Sebastian Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 3.
The performance is led by Estampa, a Brisbane-based quartet renowned for combining jazz, classical and folk influences through an eclectic mix of instruments including voice, violin, viola, nyckelharpa, guitar, banjo, button accordion and double bass.
Organisers say the performance is designed to evoke place, memory and emotion, offering audiences the chance to experience a diverse range of musical traditions in a single evening.
Postcards: Melodies from Afar will be performed at the Goulburn Performing Arts Centre on Saturday, 25 July.
