Shows create memories according to treasurer of the Goulburn AP and H Society, Michael Michelmore.

And this year’s show has done exactly that.

More than 10,000 people passed through the gates over the weekend – up 1500 on last year, despite the rain.

Exhibitor numbers were also at a high with 1500 entries in the junior art and craft sections and more than 600 entries in the photography section alone.

It has been the biggest show since 2021 when people came out of COVID hiding.

Visitor numbers fluctuated over the weekend – as did the weather – but remained consistent due to a wide-ranging schedule.

The 10,000 gate figure doesn’t include local primary school children who were all admitted to the show free of charge.

Six hundred people were on board the Picnic Train from Sydney on Sunday which may also have helped.

Mr Michelmore thanked all the volunteers including local students and people from the International Volunteers for Peace who helped set up – and who are now helping to ‘tidy up’.

He said shows often failed due to a lack of volunteers or finances and the volunteers who had helped make this year’s show a success would be thanked at a special function in April.

He also acknowledged the level of support through donations and sponsorship which he said demonstrated “community spirit”.

Now it’s back to the start.

Mr Michelmore said planning for next year’s show would start immediately with the small committee meeting every Monday afternoon.
