Moss Vale 10 December 2025.

A total yarding of 2474 fair to good quality cattle. There were some good runs of high yielding yearlings to process topping at 534c/kg, along with an increased supply of yearling steers to suit the feedlot buyers. Young cattle were well supplied and there were 460 cows to process and 42 cows and calves to suit the restockers. There was strong competition for the increased number of heavy grown cattle. All the usual buyers were operating, apart from one cow buyer, selling to a cheaper market.

Trade yearlings were up to 15c cheaper, selling from 410c to 534c/kg. Feeder steers were up to 15c cheaper, with one single pen of B muscled steers making 534c and the other pens sold from 405c to 473c/kg. Heifers to feed were considerably cheaper to average 414c/kg. Weaners returning to the paddock did not attract the competition as previous sales, resulting in a decrease in prices, with the steers ranging from 380c to 535c and the heifers ranged from 200c to 448c/kg.

Heavy grown cattle were mostly firm to a few cents easier, with the steers selling from 380c to 470c and the heifers sold from 380c to 458c/kg. 2 and 3 score cows slipped 20c, making from 270c to 388c and heavy prime cows were back 8c, topping at 414c, to average 395c/kg. The best heavy weight bull to process made 400c/kg.

Numbers lifted and the quality was plainer with some producers offloading before Christmas. There were good numbers of yearlings and plenty of grown heifers with 4 and 6 teeth up, around 250 cows were penned and not all the usual orders were operating. The market was cheaper easily back 15c to 20c across most of the yarding.

Good weaner steers reached 528c and the heifers 475c/kg. Medium weight feeder steers sold from 380c to 485c and heavy weights 430c to 481c/kg. Most of the feeder heifers ranged between 370c and 410c/kg. Heavy trade heifers made to 453c/kg and no steers went to the trade.

Prime grown steers and bullocks sold from 436c to 460c and steers with less finish to feed ranged from 380c to 468c/kg. prime heavy grown heifers sold from 357c to 440c/kg. Heavy 3 and 4 score cows ranged from 360c to 400c and the leaner 2 score cows 310c to 355c/kg.
