A Victorian man has been charged after police allegedly found more than 85 kilograms of cannabis worth an estimated $850,000 during an early-morning vehicle stop near Yass.
A Victorian man has been charged after police allegedly found more than 85 kilograms of cannabis worth an estimated $850,000 during an early-morning vehicle stop near Yass.
Yass Highway Patrol officers were conducting high-visibility patrols on the Hume Highway at Bowning when they stopped a Kia Carnival about 2.45am on Friday.
Police said the 48-year-old driver returned a negative roadside breath test before officers searched the vehicle.
During the search, officers allegedly discovered several large plastic shopping bags containing 155 individual bags of cannabis.
The cannabis had a combined weight of more than 85 kilograms and an estimated street value of $850,000, police said.
Two mobile phones were also seized and will undergo forensic examination.
The Victorian man was arrested and taken to Yass Police Station, where he was charged with supplying a prohibited drug greater than a commercial quantity.
He was refused bail and appeared in Bail Division Court 3 on Friday, where bail was formally refused.
He is due to return to the same court on Saturday.
