A Camden South intersection will receive more than $648,000 in federal funding for road safety improvements.

The project at Cowper Drive and the Old Hume Highway will include a deceleration lane, pedestrian refuge, new footpath and improvements to sight lines.

The works are intended to address limited visibility, queuing on the narrow road and the risks associated with vehicles turning at the intersection.

The Australian Government has allocated $648,084 to the project through the 2026–27 Black Spot Program.

It is one of 82 projects across NSW sharing $45.1 million under the latest funding round.

The projects were recommended by the NSW Black Spot Consultative Panel, which includes representatives from government, road-user groups and other community stakeholders.

Senator Deborah O’Neill said the Camden South project would provide a safer journey for residents and commuters who regularly used the road.

“It is great to see this project in Camden South receive the funding it needs to ensure a safer journey for the many residents and commuters who use this road,” Senator O’Neill said.

Annual funding for the national Black Spot Program has increased to $150 million.

Individuals, community organisations and councils can nominate dangerous road locations for consideration in future funding rounds.

Further information and nominations are available through the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program website.
