One truck driver remains unaccounted for after a crash involving seven semi-trailers sparked a major fire on the Hume Highway near Breadalbane early this morning.
Emergency services were called to the Windmills Rest Area in the northbound lanes of the Hume Highway, about 32km south-west of Goulburn, about 5am on Tuesday.
Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze, which destroyed all seven trucks.
NSW Ambulance treated six male truck drivers for minor injuries, with two taken to Goulburn Base Hospital for mandatory testing.
Police said five trucks were stationary in the rest area when two other trucks collided, igniting a fire that spread to all seven vehicles.
A crime scene has been established and officers from the Crash Investigation Unit are examining the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The Hume Highway remains closed in both directions at Breadalbane and is expected to stay closed for several hours.
Motorists are being diverted via the Federal Highway and Barton Highway through Canberra. The detour is suitable for vehicles up to 26-metre B-doubles and is expected to add about 80 minutes to travel times.
Police are expected to provide a media briefing shortly and we will provide an update once we receive it.
