Unprovoked assault charge in Bowral
A 20-year-old man has been charged following an alleged serious assault at a licensed premises in Bowral that left another man with multiple facial fractures.
A 20-year-old man has been charged following an alleged serious assault at a licensed premises in Bowral that left another man with multiple facial fractures.
Emergency services were called to a venue on Bong Bong Street about 12.30am on Saturday, 20 June, after reports of an incident involving a 37-year-old man.
Police said the man was taken to hospital suffering significant facial injuries and was later diagnosed with multiple fractures to his jaw, cheekbone and eye socket. He is expected to undergo further surgery.
Officers attached to The Hume Police District commenced an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage and obtaining witness statements.
Following inquiries, detectives arrested a 20-year-old man at Moss Vale Police Station about 9.40am today.
He was charged with reckless grievous bodily harm and granted conditional bail to appear before Moss Vale Local Court on 14 July.
Police will allege in court the accused assaulted the victim without warning during an interaction inside the venue.
Acting Inspector James McCarron said the incident had left the victim with serious injuries.
“This was a violent and unprovoked assault that has left the victim with significant and life-altering injuries,” he said.
“Incidents of this nature will not be tolerated in our community, and we will continue to take strong action against offenders who engage in this type of behaviour, particularly in licensed premises where people should be allowed to feel safe.”
Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
