Tuckerman welcomes Committee’s visit
Member for Goulburn, Wendy Tuckerman has welcomed the announcement that the NSW Legislative Council Select Committee on proposed Energy from Waste facilities will travel to Goulburn this week

Member for Goulburn, Wendy Tuckerman has welcomed the announcement that the NSW Legislative Council Select Committee on proposed Energy from Waste facilities will travel to Goulburn this week (May 14 and 15) as part of its inquiry into proposed waste-to-energy incinerators, including the facility proposed for Tarago.
The committee’s visit will include a site inspection, a public forum and a public hearing providing local residents with a direct opportunity to engage with members of parliament examining the proposal.
“This is a critical chance for our community to speak directly to decision-makers about the serious health, environmental and agricultural concerns associated with waste-to-energy incineration,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
“Regional NSW should not be treated as Sydney’s dumping ground.
“The voices of Goulburn, Tarago and surrounding communities must be heard.”
The public forum will be held this Thursday, May 14 between 4.30pm and 6.30pm at the Goulburn Workers Club.
The forum will allow community members to share their views and concerns directly with the Committee.
Registration is required, with attendees able to register via the QR code on promotional materials or through the Committee’s event registration link: Goulburn Public Forum Registration - Inquiry into Proposed Energy from Waste Facilities
Registrations will close today (Tuesday).
A public hearing will also be held at the Goulburn Workers Club on Friday, May 15 between 9am and 1.30pm.
Members of the public are welcome to attend and observe the proceedings.
Mrs Tuckerman said the Committee’s visit highlights the significance of the concerns raised locally.
“Almost one million tonnes of Sydney’s waste could be redirected to regional NSW each year, including around 380,000 tonnes to Tarago alone,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
“That scale of impact demands scrutiny, transparency and genuine community input,” she said.
“The inquiry is examining emissions, health impacts, water safety, risks to agriculture, transport impacts and whether these technologies meet international best practice standards.
“These are issues that go to the heart of our region’s future.”
Mrs Tuckerman encouraged residents to attend the public forum.
“Every voice counts.
“I strongly urge locals to attend the forum, engage with the Committee and ensure regional communities are treated fairly,” she said.
