Traffic warning for Goulburn ahead of police academy attestation parade
Motorists in Goulburn are being warned to expect increased traffic this Friday as thousands of people attend a major police academy ceremony.
Motorists in Goulburn are being warned to expect increased traffic this Friday as thousands of people attend a major police academy ceremony.
More than 3,000 people are expected to attend the attestation parade for Class 368 at the NSW Police Academy, with a high-visibility traffic operation to be in place.
Congestion is expected between 7am and 9.30am, and again between 11.30am and 1pm, particularly on roads surrounding the academy including Sydney Road, Union Street, Tarlo Street, Middle Arm Road and McDermott Drive.
NSW Police Force Academy Commander Chief Superintendent John Klepczarek said officers would be deployed to help manage the impact on the local community.
“Local police will be assisted by officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command to minimise the impact on the community,” he said.
“Those travelling to and from Goulburn, and the wider community, are encouraged to plan their trips to avoid significant delays.”
The attestation parade marks the graduation of new recruits into the NSW Police Force and is expected to draw large crowds of family and friends to Goulburn.
Police are urging drivers to allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes during peak periods.
