Tilt Renewables responds to reports of wedge-tailed eagle deaths
Read the company response to our questions.

Earlier today (10 July 2026), The Southern Wire reported on the deaths of wedge-tailed eagles at the Rye Park Wind Farm. https://www.thesouthernwire.com.au/20-wedge-tailed-eagles-die-at-wind-farm-2026-07-10
Following publication, The Southern Wire received responses from the wind farm's owner, Tilt Renewables, after submitting a series of questions about the issue.
In the interest of transparency, we publish the company's response in full.
“Tilt Renewables takes seriously any impacts our wind farms have on the local environment- especially in relation to bird strikes”.
“We actively monitor our impacts from the start. This includes regular searches of the area around our turbines with trained sniffer dogs to find any dead Wedge-tailed Eagle and these are reported immediately to the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure - Conservation Programs, Heritage and Regulation Group.”
“This process has alerted us that Wedge-tailed Eagle impacts are higher than expected at Rye Park compared to our other wind farms, and we are doing something about this.”
“We have been in discussion with the Department exploring what additional mitigations we can undertake. We have prepared a Wedge-tailed Eagle Mitigation Plan which has several steps we can take to protect our native fauna.”
“We also work with our ecologists and have sought out expert advice from a Wedge-tailed Eagle specialist.”
“The first step we have been doing is searching and removing any dead sheep and cattle carcasses as well as rabbit warrens that may attract eagles to our wind farm.”
“We continue to actively monitor bird deaths and will put in place more mitigation measures as agreed with the Department.”
“Overall, Rye Park Wind Farm makes a positive contribution to the environment offsetting more than 755,000 tonnes of CO2 a year, the equivalent to removing 300,000 cars off the road each year. Our construction emissions were paid back in the first year of operations, and we have invested in long-term conservation efforts in the local area.”
