Ten drug charges laid after festival police stop
A 41-year-old man has been charged with 10 offences after police allegedly found a suitcase containing a cocktail of drugs during an operation targeting drug supply around a music festival near Wee Jasper.
A 41-year-old man has been charged with 10 offences after police allegedly found a suitcase containing a cocktail of drugs during an operation targeting drug supply around a music festival near Wee Jasper.
Police stopped a vehicle on Caves Road at Wee Jasper about 5.15pm on Thursday, September 24.
Officers from The Hume Police District were conducting an operation targeting prohibited drug supply, public safety and road safety in and around Wee Jasper during the festival.
Police allege a drug detection dog indicated the presence of drugs in the vehicle, prompting officers to carry out a search.
Inside a suitcase, police allegedly found quantities of substances believed to include MDMA, methylamphetamine, LSD, psilocybin mushrooms, DMT and cannabis, as well as prescription medication.
Police also allegedly located digital scales and packaging materials they say were consistent with the supply of prohibited drugs.
The 41-year-old man was arrested and taken to Yass Police Station.
He was charged with 10 offences, including one count of supplying a prohibited drug greater than the commercial quantity, five counts of supplying prohibited drugs greater than the indictable quantity but less than the commercial quantity, and two counts of supplying prohibited drugs greater than the small quantity but less than the indictable quantity.
He was also charged with possessing a prescribed restricted substance and possessing a prohibited drug.
The man was refused bail and is due to appear before Bail Division Local Court later today, Friday, September 25.
