SUV stopped with road spikes after Hume Highway pursuit
A 27-year-old man has been charged with 12 offences after an allegedly stolen SUV was pursued along the Hume Highway near Goulburn before police deployed road spikes.
A 27-year-old man has been charged with 12 offences after an allegedly stolen SUV was pursued along the Hume Highway near Goulburn before police deployed road spikes.
Police say the Toyota SUV had been stolen from an address in Victoria about 4am on Thursday (29 October), before being spotted allegedly speeding near Breadalbane seven hours later.
Officers from The Hume Police District were called to the Hume Highway about 11am following reports of a vehicle being driven erratically.
Police attempted to stop the SUV, but the driver allegedly failed to pull over, sparking a pursuit.
The pursuit was terminated a short time later over safety concerns.
Police subsequently deployed road spikes, successfully stopping the vehicle, which was found abandoned beside the Hume Highway at Boxers Creek.
A 27-year-old man was arrested following a short foot pursuit and taken to Goulburn Police Station.
During a search of the SUV, officers allegedly discovered and seized methylamphetamine.
The man was charged with 12 offences, including two counts of police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, receiving property stolen outside NSW valued at more than $15,000, dishonestly obtaining property by deception and dangerous driving.
He was also charged with exceeding the speed limit by more than 30km/h, driving while disqualified, possessing a prohibited drug and refusing or failing to undergo several breath and oral fluid tests.
The man was refused bail and was due to appear before Bail Division Court 3 on Friday (30 October).
