Speeding driver charged after police seize drugs and cash

A man has been charged by Goulburn Police after police allegedly found a large quantity of drugs, steroids and $24,000 in cash during a traffic stop on the Federal Highway near Lake George.

A man has been charged by Goulburn Police after police allegedly found a large quantity of drugs, steroids and $24,000 in cash during a traffic stop on the Federal Highway near Lake George.

Officers attached to Goulburn Highway Patrol were conducting stationary speed enforcement shortly before midnight on Friday, July 3, when they allegedly detected a car travelling at 165km/h in a 110km/h zone on the Federal Highway between Wollogorang and Lake George.

Police stopped the vehicle at Lake George and allegedly returned a positive roadside drug test. A secondary test allegedly detected cocaine.

A search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered 125g of ketamine, 141.5g of cocaine, 44.16g of MDMA, $24,000 in cash and eight vials containing steroids and testosterone.

The 24-year-old driver was arrested and taken to Goulburn Police Station, where he was charged with three counts of supplying a prohibited drug (greater than indictable and less than commercial quantity), four counts of possessing a prescribed restricted substance, and recklessly dealing with proceeds of crime valued at more than $5,000.

He was also issued with an infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h, and his driver's licence was suspended.

The man was refused bail when he appeared before the Bail Division Court on Saturday, July 4, and is due to appear before Goulburn Local Court on Wednesday, July 22.
