Six new Australians welcomed in Goulburn
Six people from around the world have officially become Australian citizens at a ceremony in Goulburn.
Six people from around the world have officially become Australian citizens at a ceremony in Goulburn.
Goulburn Mulwaree Council hosted the citizenship ceremony, welcoming six new citizens originally from the United States, the United Kingdom and Zimbabwe.
Mayor Nina Dillon and Cr Keith Smith presented citizenship certificates to each of the new Australians, congratulating them on one of the most significant milestones in their lives.
Mayor Dillon said becoming an Australian citizen was a proud moment for those who had chosen to make Australia their home.
"Our newest citizens bring with them diverse experiences, perspectives and skills that enrich our community," she said.
"Goulburn Mulwaree is stronger because of its diversity, and we are delighted to welcome these new citizens and recognise their commitment to Australia."
Mayor Dillon said the ceremony reflected the important role people from diverse backgrounds play in the community and in strengthening Australia's multicultural society.
"On behalf of Council and the wider community, I congratulate each recipient and wish them every success as they embark on this new chapter as Australian citizens."
Following the ceremony, the new citizens, their families and guests celebrated with a morning tea hosted by the council.
