The Tallong Apple Day Festival is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and a packed program will ensure it is one of the biggest yet.
The festival will be held in the Tallong Memorial Park from 9am to 4pm with entry just $5 per person (kids under 5 free).
The event is being proudly supported by Goulburn-Mulwaree Shire Council with all proceeds going back into the community to fund projects in the Tallong area.
The festival celebrates Tallong’s rich apple orchard heritage with a range of events and activities throughout the day for people of all ages.
Gates will open at 9am with an official opening at 10am.
To celebrate the festival’s 20th anniversary special commemorative postcards designed by local photographer Magnus will be handed out at the opening ceremony.
Besides around 70 market stalls there will be all day putt putt golf, a steam engines display, a car and bike show, pony rides and Matilda’s Farmyard.
There will also be pig races throughout the day from 10.30am, circus performances at 10.30am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm, woodchopping displays at 11am and 1pm, medieval displays at 11.30am, 12.30pm and 1.30pm and chainsaw exhibitions at 11.45am and 1.45pm.
There will apple pie eating competitions and other apple-related challenges on the main stage from 11am with prizes for the junior and adult grand champions.
The extra challenges will include apple stacking, longest apple peel and apple face carving.
The closing ceremony will commence at 3pm and will include a raffle draw with the first prize winner to walk away $10,000 richer.
There will be plenty of marked parking via Bumballa Street in Tallong or people can catch a train to Marulan and then jump on the shuttle bus.
The cost of the shuttle bus will be a gold coin donation with all proceeds going to the Rural Fire Service.
Those people attending the festival are asked to leave their ‘fur babies’ at home as no pets will be allowed on site.
Organisers say the decision has been made “to ensure a safe and comfortable festival for all”.
The festival committee last week thanked Goulburn-Mulwaree for its support over many years.
Without council’s financial assistance, a spokesperson said, many community-organised events like the Tallong Apple Festival Day just wouldn’t happen.
