Shared pathways would provide better connectivity
Upper Lachlan Shire Council is seeking feedback on a proposal to construct a number of shared pathways linking local schools and residential areas to major sports and recreation precincts in Crookwell.
Upper Lachlan Shire Council is seeking feedback on a proposal to construct a number of shared pathways linking local schools and residential areas to major sports and recreation precincts in Crookwell.
Council will be applying for grant funding through the Active Transport Fund to construct the shared bicycle and pedestrian paths on Warne, Wade, Denison and East Streets and Goulburn Road.
A council spokesperson said the proposed shared paths would improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists and encourage people to walk or cycle to and from home to work and school as well as to local parks and sporting facilities.
Besides providing better connectivity and promoting outdoor physical activity, they would also help reduce traffic-related air and noise pollution, the spokesperson said.
There are five proposed shared paths in total.
The first pathway (shown as A on the concept map) in Warne Street will connect St Mary’s Primary School with Crookwell’s Multi-purpose Aquatic and Activity Centre (MACC), while a second pathway (B) in East Street will connect MACC with the Crookwell Showground’s East Street entrance.
A third pathway (C) in Goulburn Street will connect the MACC and Coleman Park with the Crookwell Sports Precinct, including the Lyn Cooper Reserve, Todkill Park and the Crookwell Golf Club.
The Goulburn Street pathway will be by far the longest of the five.
A fourth pathway (D) in Denison Street will connect Crookwell Public School with the MACC and a fifth pathway (E) in Wade Street will connect St Mary’s Primary School with Crookwell Showground.
Council is seeking comment on its concept plan for the shared pathways up until 2pm on Wednesday, September 23.
People can leave a comment online at www.upperlachlan.com.au and can also take part in a short active transport community survey.
