Sent off: Six charged after rugby brawl
A suburban rugby match at The Oaks ended in chaos earlier this month, with six men now facing court over an alleged brawl involving players and spectators.
A suburban rugby match at The Oaks ended in chaos earlier this month, with six men now facing court over an alleged brawl involving players and spectators.
Police allege the fight broke out after the conclusion of a rugby match at a sports oval in The Oaks on Sunday, July 19.
Officers attached to Camden Police Area Command were called to the ground following reports of a large fight involving spectators and players.
Several people were injured during the incident, although only a 71-year-old man required hospital treatment.
Police spoke with a number of those involved before the crowd dispersed, with investigations continuing in the days that followed.
As a result of those inquiries, police on Tuesday issued Court Attendance Notices to six men aged 71, 46, 44, 40, 21 and 18.
All six have been charged with affray.
The 71-year-old man has also been charged with behaving in an offensive manner in or near a public place or school.
The 71-year-old and 46-year-old men are due to appear before Picton Local Court on September 17.
The remaining four men are scheduled to appear before the same court on September 10.
Police also dealt with three 17-year-old boys under the Young Offenders Act.
